Summary
Welcome House is a fast-growing registered charity located in the Hull City Centre, serving people in Hull and East Riding. The Charity was set up in May 2020 to offer a welcome to our area and to provide practical, social and emotional support to asylum seekers and refugees to help them to rebuild their lives in a city and region which is new to them, but where they now hope to call ‘home’.
Our work is an evolving response to the challenges faced by asylum seekers and refugees in our region. We offer a safe and stimulating space for asylum seekers and refugees to just walk in, sit and relax, have a cup to tea/coffee, to meet others from their culture as well as other cultures, to make friends and build a network of support and guidance, to get engaged in voluntary, social and cultural activities and learn in a friendly and informal way.
Purpose of the Role
As the Welcome House Centre Manager, you will play a vital role in the smooth day to day running of the centre and will be responsible for co-ordinating a committed team of staff and volunteers to deliver a holistic programme of support and activities that meets our beneficiaries needs and reflects our values and mission.
The post holder will co-ordinate the day-to-day delivery of the centre’s activities and services, ensuring that delivery is responsive to the views and needs of asylum seekers and refugees, while meeting the requirements of our funders, and ensuring that staff and volunteers are working effectively to support positive outcomes for our beneficiaries and working partners.
Working with the Chief Officer and Trustees, you will also maintain the centre’s long-term sustainability in terms premises’ management, health and safety and planned and reactive maintenance.
General requirements:
You will be an approachable and capable leader with experience of delivering quality programmes of support, care, and social & mental wellbeing.
With an understanding of safeguarding principles in relation to children and vulnerable adults, you will have experience of managing projects and people to achieve key project outcomes on time and to budget.
Experience in social work, community development, mental health, education, IT skills or a similar field is desirable as is having experience of working with a team of paid staff and volunteers and of interacting with partners
You will oversee the reporting of the Centre outcomes and ensure the planned programmes of activity and premises management are delivered in line with agreed targets. You will need to assist the Chief Officer in managing our important relationships with a variety of stakeholders as well as colleagues, including local VCSE partners, businesses, donors, and our Board of Trustees.
Day to day responsibilities
To manage, direct and monitor the overall performance of the staff and the organization of our weekly and ad hoc activities.
Effective liaison, support, and assistance with the whole of the organisation.
To maintain and improve mechanisms for centre activities, including monitoring and measuring the operations, processes, and outcomes and to feedback to the appropriate internal and external partners.
Utilisation of existing systems and development of new systems to manage the centre functions, analysis, and documentation.
The recruitment, training, appraisal, performance management and general support of the staff.
To support the Chief Officer and Trustees in developing plans for the centre’s progress and growth.
To provide support to all colleagues at WH.
To provide the Chief Officer and Trustees with monthly and quarterly reports as required including the compilation and maintenance of auditable records, both paper and electronic, of the Welcome House activities.
To maintain a database of project staff, volunteers, clients, partners, and associated contacts.
To assist in arranging events, evaluations, clients’ feedback, etc.
To assist the Chief Officer and Trustees in the preparation of the business planning of Welcome House.
To ensure responsible use resources and control expenses to meet agreed budgetary controls.
To adhere to all organisation policies and procedures; and
From time to time, you may be expected to be part of special projects as are required of your job role and may be required to work some flexible hours. Any extra hours worked will be paid as additional hours or taken as time off in lieu.
Essential Requirements of this role:
Effective written and spoken English.
Evidence of competent use of Ms Word, Excel, and Power Point.
Experience of premises management and the legal requirements relating to H&S, Fire Risk management, Safeguarding etc.
A high degree of integrity and honesty in all dealings.
Effective analytical, interpersonal, organisational and communication skills; a
Ability to work under pressure.
Terms of employment
Employment term: From November 2025 – December 2027
