Summary


This position is for a vascular access for dialysis fellow (ST3-5) to provide care for patients within the Frimley Vascular Unit with a focus on vascular access for dialysis. This would be ideally suited for a vascular trainee looking to expand their vascular access for dialysis exposure and curriculum requirements for CCT. The position aims to achieve the learning outcomes of Capability in Practice at level IV for managing an outpatient clinic.

Operating list and multidisciplinary working. Level IV clinical competencies should be achieved in creation of AVF, management of steal syndrome, ligation and excision of fistulas / grafts, and *insertion of peritoneal dialysis catheters*.

The role will provide support for the ST1/2 and FY1s and receive support / training from consultant staff.

Within the job plan there is dedicated time allocated to research and the successful candidate will be expected to undertake a research/audit project themed on vascular access for dialysis and participate in the vascular access for dialysis outcome review. There is opportunity for simulator training with an on-site Symbionics simulator with both peripheral and EVAR training modules. In addition, there is ample opportunity for endovascular training with a hybrid theatre and 2 theatre spec radiology suites.

· Assessment, care and treatment of patients presenting to the specialty and referred to the specialty, with a focus on vascular access for dialysis.

· Participate in 2 outpatient sessions per week, to include the vascular access one-stop clinic

· Participate in 1 or 2 vascular interventional radiology sessions per week to include fistula intervention.

· Opportunity to attend up to 3 vascular theatre sessions per week.

· Attend weekly vascular access MDT meetings, alongside general vascular and lower limb MDT meetings.

· Teaching and training staff in other medical disciplines, nursing and support staff as appropriate.

· Communication with on-take firms as appropriate.

· In conjunction with the admitting clinical teams and the wider health economy to develop and implement integrated surgical and emergency care pathways throughout the Trust.

· Participation in relevant audit and quality assurance processes.

· Abide by the Clinical & Corporate Governance policies of the Trust.

· Participation in the out of hours rota with 1:6 – 1:8 emergency vascular surgery (non resident).

Other Academic / Teaching Responsibilities:

· It is expected that you will undertake a research/audit project during the post

· It is expected that you will actively participate in the regular teaching-training program within the Department.

· Overseeing training – teaching of ST1 and ST2s, FY1s and medical students.

· Contribute to the Vascular Department Clinical Audit meeting, including the Vascular Access for Dialysis Clinical Audit and M&M meetings.
