Summary

An opportunity has arisen within the Regeneration and Community Services Directorate for two Building Control Officers to join the Regeneration and Development team.

The post holders will be required to process a wide ranging caseload of applications, compliance work and dangerous structures. The successful candidate will be an agile worker (operating base in the General Offices) as part of a small but enthusiastic team and will be required to contribute positively to the delivery of the building control service in the Borough.

The main responsibilities of the role include:

Providing Building Regulation advice to elected members, other Departments, general public and other interested parties.

Carry a personal application caseload of a wide range of development types including processing applications for compliance, preparing schedules of matters requiring attention, negotiate amendments as necessary, undertake statutory and other site inspections in connection with full plans and building notice applications.

Investigate breaches and enforce the Building Regulations including pursuance to resolution of unauthorised works. Duties include prosecutions and court appearance.

To investigate and respond promptly and effectively to any alleged dangerous structure incident during normal business hours. The post is also required to undertake Emergency Standby and contact details of your landline telephone number and work mobile number will be recorded. You may be contacted when an emergency situation


Undertake consultations with other Council Departments and statutory undertakers in connection with the Building Control function.
The successful candidate will have proven experience of working in a building control environment and be educated to a minimum of HNC in construction or related discipline.
The successful candidate also requires a full driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes.
