Role: Senior Lawyer

Location: Peterborough (CITB are currently operating hybrid working arrangements with the expectation that team members are in the office a minimum of 3-4 days per month and in addition as required for meetings or otherwise.) We are also open to full-time flexible working arrangements which can be discussed at interview.

Hours of Work: Full-time (35 hours per week)

Contract: Permanent

Salary Range: £64,890 - £69,300

Grade: SL2

Target Salary: £67,162 + £6,799 Car Allowance (annually)

Why This Role?

This is a high-impact role at the heart of CITB’s legal function. You’ll provide expert legal advice across a broad range of areas, from public and regulatory law to commercial contracts, procurement, and data protection. This is your chance to work strategically, influence key decisions and ensure CITB operates confidently and compliantly within its statutory framework.

You’ll be joining a respected Legal Team at a time of exciting change, with the freedom to lead on complex matters and collaborate closely with senior leadership.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Acting as a trusted legal advisor across CITB’s full remit of work.
Leading on complex legal matters and managing your own diverse portfolio.
Interpreting and advising on legislation, regulations, and statutory powers.
Drafting and reviewing high-value contracts and managing legal risk.
Supporting colleagues across the organisation, including Board and Executive level, with timely and commercially sound legal guidance.
Representing CITB in legal matters including tribunals or court when required.
Commissioning and managing external legal support where appropriate.
Your Experience:

Qualified solicitor, barrister, or chartered legal executive with the right to practise in England and Wales.
Strong post-qualification experience in at least one of the following: public/regulatory law, commercial/contract law, or public procurement.
Proven ability to manage complex caseloads independently while providing clear, strategic advice.
Experience working in-house, ideally within the public sector, with the confidence to advise senior stakeholders.
