Summary


An opportunity has arisen for a Speciality Doctor to join our team at Colchester Hospital in the Community Paediatrics team. This post provides an excellent opportunity to join our enthusiastic and committed team, providing high quality health care to the local child population. The post in an exciting opportunity to contribute to service development and improvement as we seek to provide the best possible care to our patients.

Start date 1st April 2026.

Key elements of the post:

· 10PA full-time contract

· Mixed Neurobehavioural and neurodevelopmental caseload

· Child development assessments

· Participation in safeguarding clinic rota

· Clinical / educational supervision of Paediatric SpRs (core / higher trainees)

· Area of special interest to be developed.

CLINICAL
The post-holder will
• Undertake regular clinics including general developmental, neurobehavioural (ADHD), social communication disorders and neurodisability clinics
• Undertake sub-speciality clinics as agreed at job planning
• Participate in the paediatric safeguarding clinic rota for non-urgent safeguarding assessment and advice
• May participate in the paediatric cover provided by Colchester Hospital University Trust for the Essex Sexual Abuse Referral Centre (this is not a requirement of the post)
• Work in conjunction with acute consultant colleagues to help co-ordinate the provision of medical care in the community for children with special and complex needs / chronic illnesses (e.g. neurodisability, epilepsy, genetic disorders etc.)
• Participate in the administrative duties associated with patient care and the running of the department

General
This is a 10PA post but applicants with job share arrangements are welcome.
• No On call Duties
• Child development assessments
• Participation in safeguarding clinic rota
• Clinical supervision of Paediatric SpRs (core / higher trainees) and GP registrars
• Area of special interest to be developed, experience of epilepsy and/or complex neurodisability is welcome
• Mixed Neurobehavioural and neurodevelopmental caseload

Whilst the post-holder’s duties will be primarily community based, safeguarding clinics and some community paediatric clinics are held within the Children’s Outpatients Unit at Colchester Hospital. There is also the potential to hold other specialist clinics here, depending on the applicant’s area of expertise.

The department actively supports continuing professional development of its staff – including any additional training needed to help achieve personal and professional goals.

Full GMC registration is required and Candidates are required to be up to date with Level 3 Safeguarding with at least 4 years post graduate training ideally with up to 12 months experience in community paediatrics.
