Community Support Worker with Fife International Forum
Role description:
The Community Support Worker is responsible for assessing the needs of individuals and helping people in challenging situations achieve their goals for a better-quality life. The work is person-centred, strengths-based focusing on individuals’ strengths, interests, resources, and capabilities. Community Support Workers manage a caseload listening to people’s concerns and solving problems to increase the individual and family’s self-confidence, self-esteem, and sense of empowerment. The role also involves working with people to improve their overall health and wellbeing enabling families to avoid crisis situations. Our service delivery is focused on enabling people to choose and shape their support.
This role is about delivering holistic information and support focussed on managing personal outcomes based on human rights principles. The team works in partnership with individuals and other organisations for successful service delivery.
The ability to work flexibly to meet the demands of the service is crucial, there may be a requirement to work outside normal office hours and occasional weekends.
Based at: Premier House , 29A Randolph Place , Kirkcaldy , KY1 2YX .
Placement end date: 27/03/2026.
Work pattern - art time flexible working to be confirmed.

Essential Qualifications/Skills:
Educated to SVQ level 3 or equivalent in a subject relevant to this role.
Knowledge and experience gained in a relevant setting for a minimum of two years.
Demonstrable leadership competence, including integrity, self-discipline, communication and people skills, trustworthiness, teamwork, conflict management, problem-solving, sound judgment, initiative, and decision-making.
Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail and the ability to move quickly and easily from planning to implementation.
Ability to advocate and negotiate for people, and act as an ambassador of the organisation to continuously build and develop community relationships.
IT literacy, in particular Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
Resilient and capable of managing potentially stressful situations whilst presenting a calm, capable and reassuring presence to individuals you are supporting.
The ability to discuss sensitive issues with a range of individuals and provide options and choices that lead people to positive solutions.
Reliable in complying with specific internally established control systems and rules, leading by personal example encouraging all staff to do the same.
Conduct all activities in compliance with applicable laws and the organisation's standards and policies, including its ethics, code of conduct and health & safety policies.
The ability to manage time effectively and work to deadlines is crucial in this role. Accurate and timely completion of case notes to ensure casework consistency and reporting of data for management reports.
Experience in case working principles including conducting diagnostic interviews and providing information and advice on all social, health, wellbeing, housing, financial, education, and employment matters. Experience in writing concise case notes within agreed timescales. Experience in using bespoke databases for recording data input.
Work experience and a demonstrable background in providing support to vulnerable community members ideally within international or ethnic minority settings. Setting and adhering to professional boundaries, ensuring compliance with all policies and procedures.
Understanding the importance of confidentiality and data protection principles.
Hold a current UK driving licence and access to a car.
Desirable Knowledge:
Up-to-date understanding of issues related to welfare benefits, debt management, and housing support.
Knowledge and a passion for learning more about the benefits of migration, diversity, and inclusion and the support we provide in education, upskilling, language support, employment opportunities, and social activities that enable people to integrate and play an active part in community life.
The Community Support Worker selection process will consist of three stages:
1. The first stage will take the form of an informal meeting, this will provide an opportunity for all candidates to meet with members of the team and ask questions about the organisation, our mission and vision, our strategic plan, and the role of the Community Support Worker.
2. The second stage will take the form of a written exercise.
3. The third stage will take the form of a formal interview with the Chief Executive Officer, the Operations Manager and Lead Caseworker.
4. Please allow up to 2.5 hours for the interview process.
