Summary


At the direction of the registered nurse participate fully in the delivery of planned
nursing care.
 Participate in the reception of patients and relatives with the clinical area and to act
courteously to all visitors.
 Receive patients within the ward, checking patient details and providing information
as required.

 Monitor pressure area’s and assist qualified staff in changing wound dressings.
 Escort patients who do not require constant qualified care.
 Serve drinks and meals to patients and to give assistance to those patients
requiring help.
 Assist in bed making and the disposal of soiled linen/ wipe down trolleys in clinic.
 Monitor patient intake including peg feeds and record on food charts.
 Chaperone patients as necessary within inpatient and clinic.
 Undertake the recording of temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate and
pulse oximetry, also fluid input and output, and blood sugars. To report findings to
the nurse in charge of patient care (once trained and competent).
 Once trained and competent, to record 12 Lead ECG and report to a senior
member of the team.
 Collecting and testing specimens as required and reporting abnormalities.
 Participate in Phlebotomy and cannulation of patients on the ward
 Ensure safekeeping of patient’s property and valuables within Trust guidelines.
 Work collaboratively with others in the ward or clinic to ensure that patient’s needs
are meet.




 Support people’s equality, diversity and rights.
 The post holder is expected to support other health care assistants and learners.
 Ensure own compliance with regard to mandatory training and own development.
 Ability to use computerised patient management programmes/trust communication
programmes.
 Assist other clinical areas within the Trust, if the clinical situation or staffing levels
demand.
 Be able to receive phone messages from patients or visitors and relay this to the
relevant staff member.
 Be actively involved in nursing audit
