Your new role


As an Ecologist, you'll be involved in feasibility assessments, project planning, and coordination in line with UK environmental and planning legislation. You'll provide environmental planning advice, prepare technical reports, and support planning applications for projects with varying environmental sensitivities. You'll also coordinate smaller schemes and assist senior ecologists and sub-consultants in producing Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs) and other ecological deliverables.
Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and Coordination: You'll manage ecological aspects of projects, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and planning frameworks. This includes coordinating surveys, assessments, and reporting schedules to meet client and regulatory deadlines.
  • Technical Reporting: You'll prepare and deliver a variety of technical documents, such as ecological impact assessments, planning applications, and mitigation strategies for sites with varying levels of environmental sensitivity.
  • Fieldwork and Appraisals: You'll support the delivery of Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs), habitat surveys, and other ecological fieldwork, working alongside senior ecologists and external consultants.
  • Project Management: You'll take ownership of smaller schemes, managing timelines and deliverables while collaborating with internal teams and stakeholders to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: You'll liaise with clients, planning authorities, and other stakeholders to provide expert ecological advice and ensure that environmental considerations are integrated into project planning and execution.
  • Team Collaboration: You'll contribute to a supportive team environment, assisting with mentoring junior staff and participating in knowledge-sharing initiatives across the business.


What you'll need to succeed

  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to work independently and manage workloads to meet deadlines
  • A commitment to continuous professional development, especially if working toward qualifications like CIEEM
  • A collaborative mindset to support junior staff and contribute to company initiatives
  • A thorough understanding of legal, regulatory, and organisational compliance
