JobIntroduction
We are seeking a proactive and skilled Deputy Manager (Logistic Support Services) to support and oversee all services within our Logistic Support Unit, ensuring operational excellence, safety, and client satisfaction at Merville Barracks, Circular Road South, Colchester, Essex CO2 7UT
Lead and manage all services within the Logistic Support Unit, ensuring contractual, client, and Sodexo standards are met. Deliver outputs via Sodexo and MOD IT systems, drive service growth, and manage team performance, budgets, and Health & Safety.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan, organise, and manage the delivery of all services within the Logistics Support Unit, ensuring SLA standards, KPIs, and contractual terms are consistently achieved, maintained, and developed.
Ensure delivery of contracted outputs via both Sodexo and MOD IT operational systems.
Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Sodexo accounting systems (Planet, PFI furniture asset system & associated assets, Kronos).
Deputise in the absence of the Logistic Services Manager during planned/unplanned absences.
Lead health and safety management for building D11, acting as primacy lead, and role-model safe behaviours in line with Sodexo’s “Zero Harm” culture.
Ensure compliance with Sodexo policies, legislative requirements, MOD site rules, and internal/external audits.
Monitor, manage, and report on staff absence, lateness, and holiday using Kronos.
Lead, motivate, and develop your team, conducting PDRs, supporting employee engagement, and handling recruitment, training, performance management, disciplinary and grievance procedures.
Maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships, including MOD partners, RMPA, DIO employees, and authority personnel - embedding Sodexo’s Clients for Life approach.
Manage budgets effectively, contributing to financial reviews, compliance with stock/cash controls, and achievement of site gross margin targets.
Collaborate with other department managers to coordinate service activities across the site.
Ensure continuous improvement of services through innovation, compliance, and professional development (including your own learning and Sodexo Professional Families Network).
Support unsociable hours, flexible scheduling, travel, and overnight stays when required in line with MOD operational needs.
What you bring:
Essential
Proven management experience within logistics, supply management, or warehouse distribution.
Leadership and people management skills, with strong knowledge of HR processes.
Good numerical, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships.
Knowledge of Health, Safety and Welfare management, with the ability to role-model safe practices.
Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a team.
Competent in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Attention to detail and ability to adhere to standards.
Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills with the ability to implement innovative solutions.
Desirable
Previous experience managing in a similar role.
Health & Safety qualification (e.g., IOSH Managing Safely).
Experience in Hard or Soft FM service industry and/or contract administration.
Demonstrated ability to manage client relationships within a contract environment.
Proven track record of leading, managing, and developing a team.
