We have a fantastic opportunity for a Cover Supervisor / Classroom Assistant to join a thriving secondary school, supporting teaching and learning while gaining valuable classroom experience.

Applications are welcomed from both experienced Cover Supervisors and those looking to gain experience, as full training will be provided.
SALARY: £27,779 per annum FTE / Actual Annual Salary £17,707 + Benefits
LOCATION: Hedge End, Southampton, Hampshire
JOB TYPE: Part-Time, Permanent
WORKING HOURS: 27.5 hours per week, 8:30am to 3:00pm Monday to Friday, term time only (39 weeks)

The Cover Supervisor / Classroom Assistant role is ideal for those looking to build a career in education, whether as a long-term position or as a stepping stone towards teacher training. You will play a key role in maintaining high standards of behaviour, ensuring lessons run smoothly, and helping students stay on task.
Working closely with teachers and staff, the Cover Supervisor / Classroom Assistant will benefit from full training, comprehensive support, and opportunities to develop skills in classroom management, safeguarding, and behaviour management.
DUTIES
Your duties as the Cover Supervisor / Classroom Assistant will include:
• Classroom Supervision: Delivering lessons set by the teacher during staff absence
• Student Support: Assisting students with queries and encouraging progress
• Behaviour Management: Ensuring good classroom conduct and keeping pupils on task
• Lesson Delivery: Delivering lively and engaging learning using pre-set plans
• Collaboration: Working alongside teaching staff to support classroom activities
• Administrative Support: Assisting with cover timetables and general school admin tasks
• Exams: Supporting with exam invigilation when required
• Flexibility: Providing technician and classroom assistance in quieter times
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
• Experience of working with young people in an educational or support setting
• Proven ability to manage behaviour positively and fairly
• Strong communication and organisation skills
• A background in providing support and guidance to others
• Willingness to learn and develop through training and mentoring
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare
