You'll Fit Right Inn...
We have an exciting opportunity for a Fixed Term Group Financial Controller (Maternity cover) to join our team. The role is a senior one, responsible for leading a large team, finance business partnering key business leaders and delivering controls and compliance across the group. The role is a key member of our Finance Lead Team and also an important part of the extended management team of the business.

We’re looking for a forward-thinking Controller, with experience of the role that can translate the relevant parts of that experience into our team and working culture. Candidates should understand the importance of leading organisations, developing talent, speaking to the business in their own language as well as fundamental controls, compliance and disciplines associated with high-achieving finance teams.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Lead team of thirteen across Accounting, External Compliance, Reporting, End to End Cash and Payroll
  • Finance business partner to Operations Director and People Director
  • Monthly business updates presented at the MBR forum
  • Period close financial statement review, control and sign off
  • Responsible for external compliance of the group including the statutory audit
  • Balance sheet owner and ultimate gatekeeper, ensuring timely reviews and follow ups
  • Oversight of the Group Consolidation, accounts and tax submissions.
  • Oversight of payroll compliance including P11D submissions, specifically around live in accommodation
  • Key stakeholder in pension provider review
  • Key contributor to 2026 budget and rolling forecasts
  • Internal control lead ensuring compliance across the wider business from an accounting and legislative point of view
  • Lead process reengineering and continuous improvement across the team
  • Key ICG representative and relationship point with all banks and investment partners
Required Skills

  • Fully qualified ACA/ACCA or CIMA with approx. 10 years+ PQE
  • Passion for control and compliance
  • Consolidation and accounting excellence
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong leader of organisations, with experience of leading teams across multiple levels in the organisation and through growth transitions
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to relate to a wide range of people of all levels and build trust
  • Clear track record of coaching, mentoring and development of others
  • Strong depth of understanding of financial statements and commercial awareness
  • Experience of business partnering, influencing and driving strong financial decision-making making through partnerships with senior business leaders
  • Advanced Excel
  • Technology skills – comfort using ERP / Accounting systems, and leading refreshes and changes to such systems
  • Bachelor's degree 2:1 or above
This role is based at our Head Office in Newcastle, with the option of some home working once the initial training period has been successfully completed.
