Summary

A Vacancy at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.

This is an excellent opportunity for enthusiastic and dynamic individuals to join the Anaesthetic and Intensive Care teams based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, Glenfield Hospital and Leicester General Hospital. Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the posts of Anaesthetic Fellow with an interest in Leadership and Management.

This post is suitable for any grade of doctor who:
• holds full GMC registration.
• is thought to be within 2 years of gaining all competencies required for completion of training.
• has certificate of basic training and at least gained the primary FRCA or equivalent.

Clinical

Clinical duties will include participation in an on call rota (either obstetrics, ICU or theatre) on a 1:8 resident basis (maximum shift duration of 12.5hrs).

The majority of normal working days will be dedicated to leadership and management activities (tailored to the individual).

Non-Clinical

Post holders may take on various projects whilst in the post but are expected to contribute to both the operational and strategic management of both the anaesthetic department as well as the “Working with Others” branch of the One NHS Finance programme. This may involve liaison with other specialities/professional groups. Projects will be determined by the fellow's interests and the department's needs. It is anticipated that work produced from these will be of a standard to present nationally.

Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).

We have four primary goals:
• high-quality care for all,
• being a great place to work,
• partnerships for impact, and
• research and education excellence

And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.

Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:
• we are compassionate,
• we are proud,
• we are inclusive, and
• we are one team

This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.

This post is designed to develop the career of clinicians with an interest in leadership and management. Applicants will gain a deeper understanding of leadership and management theory and it’s application to everyday situations within the NHS. Fellows will also acquire an understanding of corporate governance within a large NHS Trust through participation in meetings, including working with the NHS England One NHS Finance programme.

The fellow will be able to attend meetings, understand the decision-making process and develop projects within their own sphere of interest. It is expected that the successful completion of this fellowship will provide the applicant with experiences that will aid in future job applications.
