Summary

DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES Follow Pharmacy and Dispensary SOPs at all times. Process all authorised prescriptions where appropriate in accordance with the principle of good practice as described in the Dispensing Doctors Association Dispensing Guidelines and Pharmacy SOPs. Ensure that all medicines and appliances dispensed (with the use of the dispensing robot) are checked against the prescription and whenever there is doubt about the appropriateness of the item, or about the dose or labelling instructions to check with the Pharmacist or authorising doctor (or On Call doctor). Making up and checking of dossette boxes. Endorse all prescription forms as appropriate ready for the end of month process. Promptly forward all invoices and dispensary related correspondence to the Practice Manager or Pharmacist in accordance with practice policy. Operate efficient stock control appropriate to the needs of the practice with the objective of ensuring continuity of supply for patients and minimising wastage through out of date stock. Order drugs from wholesalers and representatives as and when required, making use of the computer ordering system. Ensure that drugs are stored in an appropriate manner in accordance with the accompanying instructions. Ensure that all shelves and all work surfaces are regularly cleaned to maintain a high level of hygiene. Ensure that all equipment is kept clean and kept in good working order Take prompt action in response to any drug alert bulletins that may be received from time to time Ensure that refrigerated items are stored at the appropriate temperature and to maintain a temperature control record / log book Maintain full and accurate records of all transactions incorporating the use of computers as appropriate. Undertake any necessary work as may be required and appropriate to maintain a high standard and efficient dispensing service. Ensure repeat prescriptions are regularly entered on the computer system and printed out. Collect all due prescription charges and ensure that the patient declaration on the reverse of the FP10 is duly filled in and signed by the patient. In circumstances where the patient is physically unable to do so the dispenser may fill in the declaration on the patients behalf but only when completely satisfied that the declaration is correct. Undertake training as appropriate to ensure necessary skills and competence required. Potential to work towards ACT qualification. Maintain confidentiality at all times Maintain awareness of and compliance with the Practice Procedural Guidelines and General Health & Safety Regulations within the Practice Undertake any further duties that may be required from time to time as requested by the Partners or Management team.
