Graduate English Teaching Assistant: Candidate Specification

We’re looking for a Graduate English Teaching Assistant who:

• Has a 2:1 or higher in English, English Literature, Creative Writing, or a closely related subject
• Has strong GCSE and A-Level results, particularly in English & Language
• Is a clear communicator, creative thinker, and eager to help students find their voice in writing and discussion
• Is resilient, adaptable, proactive, and enjoys working as part of a team
• Is committed to growing skills through mentorship, CPD, and classroom experience
• Previous experience (tutoring, volunteering, etc.) is desirable but not essential

Graduate English Teaching Assistant: Role Responsibilities

As a Graduate English Teaching Assistant, you will be responsible for:

• Support the planning and delivery of English lessons across Key Stage 3 and 4, helping students with reading, writing, and comprehension
• Deliver 1:1 or small group interventions to help students improve analytical and creative writing, comprehension, or exam preparation
• Assist with creating engaging resources: texts, discussion prompts, mock exam papers, etc.
• Provide constructive feedback on student work to help them develop their confidence and skills
• Help foster a classroom environment that values curiosity, expression, respect, and hard work
