Summary

Job Context The Health Determinants Research Collaboration North Yorkshire (HDRC NY) is a partnership with the Universities of Hull and York. Together we are is developing the research culture of the Council and building Council-University partnerships to conduct and use research on the health and wellbeing issues that matter to communities, and which reduce inequalities (see NIHR Award 158758 https://fundingawards.nihr.ac.uk/award/NIHR158758) The HDRC NY has four work packages, each co-led by Council staff and University academics: development of research infrastructure & governance, development of research capacity & capability, dissemination & impact, and learning & evaluation. In addition, the HDRC NY has three cross cutting themes: Public Involvement & Community Engagement; Health Economics; Behavioural Science. The HDRC Research Officer will coordinate research governance activity and lead HDRC NY communications across. The post holder will ensure all research activity within the Council meets the required standards and is of good quality, safe and ethically sound. Job Purpose The HDRC Research Officer will promote research activity across the council and ensure that research meets the required standards and is of good quality, safe and ethically sound. Operational Management Research Governance: Work with colleagues and partners to establish and implement processes to ensure that the Research Governance Framework continues to be up to date and relevant. Develop and maintain a system for logging, managing, and coordinating research governance requests and enquiries both internally and externally. Develop and manage a research log for active and completed projects that NYC are or have been involved in Directorate/Council-wide. Use information from the research log to help prevent duplication and identify potential research gaps and opportunities, to feed into the Research Development Forum and other platforms. Be the lead point of contact for all research governance related questions and queries and provide advice to staff to ensure compliance with internal and external processes. Coordinate the Research Champions programme Facilitate and support exploratory discussions on potential research activity from a governance perspective. Support and guide those who wish to undertake research (internal staff/external researchers) through the research development and governance processes in compliance with the research governance framework and highlight andescalate instances of non-compliance and/or potential risks. Research Communications: Lead the development and delivery of the HDRCs Communications Strategy, aligned to our vision and objectives. Create accessible, inclusive content for digital platforms including website, social media and email newsletters. Use analytics to evaluate the impact and improve HDRC communications. Develop and deliver training/workshops regarding research related activities and processes Resource Management. Ability to ensure work is carried out effectively and that resources are available to meet demand. Ability to escalate if actions are required to manage resources. Partnerships Work with NYC teams (e.g., Data/Information Governance, Corporate Communications) and relevant committees/and or groups to ensure that research activity is compliant with appropriate regulations (e.g., GDPR/HRA/UKRIO) and effectively communicated. Build and sustain collaborative working relationships, respecting the contribution of others. Strategic Management Work with colleagues and partners to develop and implement a Council-wide Research Governance Framework, including developing related policies, processes and management of appropriate infrastructures (e.g., Research Advisory Groups). Work with the HDRC Senior Manager/HDRC Leadership Team to develop, prioritise and deliver objectives relating to research communications and research governance within the Council. Communications Lead content creation across the HDRCs digital platforms, ensuring messages are engaging, accessible and targeted to our core audiences. Support research culture change activity through effective communications. Work with colleagues and partners to ensure that outputs from research projects are gathered and disseminated in accordance with the strategies agreed during the research governance approval process. Represent the HDRC and Council in relevant external meetings, networks and forums relevant to the role. Prepare and present reports and presentations to a range of audiences, including HDRC Leadership group, HDRC Work package meetings and Research Community, members. Use effective communication systems and present complex information in an accessible format that is tailored to the audience. Appraise the HDRC Senior Manager/HDRC Leadership Team of any matters arising which are particularly sensitive in nature or are controversial. Use a range of techniques to successfully persuade, influence and/or negotiate with others in a range of situations. Systems and Information Develop and maintain effective audit and tracking systems for monitoring and reporting research governance compliance Support the co-ordination and monitoring of HDRC data and outputs for performance reporting. Support the development and continuous improvement of data infrastructure, architecture, and systems to enable data sharing and analysis in a secure and safe manner e.g., Trusted Research Environment. Develop and maintain systems and information for analysis and evaluation and for reporting and presenting of research activity within NYC. Comply with the Councils policies in relation to Data Protection, Information Security and Confidentiality.
