Hours are offered on an as and when required basis

£16.49 per hour (including Distant Islands Allowance)

A shift allowance will be paid for unsocial hours worked where appropriate

Applications are invited for the above position working within Marine Services and Transportation.

The Pier Master will participate in OIC Marine Services Safety Management System in accordance with the Port Marine Safety Code and associated plans referenced to in the Safety Management System policy document.

Duties will include instructing vessels where to berth and will assist with the berthing and sailings of vessels to and from the piers. You will also ensure that the Harbour Byelaws are complied with.

Additionally, the Pier Master will have the responsibility for the safe operation and routine maintenance of the Linkspan as well as ensuring the harbour premises are kept clean and tidy. You will also be responsible for completing and forwarding all required documentation to the Harbour Authority at Scapa as and when required. Applicants must have Restricted VHF Radio certificate and forklift truck operator's licence.

You should be able to travel efficiently and effectively between work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the Service.
