Summary

Here on the FfWHR we are looking to consolidate our position as one of the premier tourist attractions in the Top Left Hand Corner of Wales. Our Boston Lodge Engineering Works provides a unique blend of innovative and progressive modern construction and heritage preservation and interpretation. We are pleased to announce a rare and exciting opportunity for someone to join the permanent staff working in this unique environment.

We are looking to recruit a Joiner / Woodworker to join our small but dedicated Carriage Works team. The Carriage Works are responsible for the building and maintaining of the Company’s fleet of modern and historical carriages in accordance with current and developing Festiniog Railway Company policies and plans, and also undertake contract work for other Heritage Railways and associated organisations.

We can offer you:
• Salary in the range of £25,900 - £26,300 per annum dependent on experience
• 40 hours per week, usually Monday to Friday, occasional weekend working may be required
• A minimum of 28 days paid holiday, inclusive of all bank and public holidays

This permanent, full-time position will be based at Boston Lodge Engineering Works, Minffordd, near Porthmadog. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on both new build and heritage restoration and maintenance projects, constructing and fitting components for a variety of carriages. You will need to work closely with the present staff team and those of other departments with the possibility of working at some of our other sites. You must be able to produce work to an agreed standard in a timely fashion. The successful candidate will also be expected to perform some basic finishing processes such as varnishing & priming of components in order to assist the flow of work.

It is desirable that candidates have an NVQ level 2 or higher in bench joinery and be able to demonstrate experience in practical woodworking and machine use. The successful candidate will show an interest in and aptitude for learning new and different skills in the manufacture of railway carriages and other bench joinery jobs.

Core Skills:
• NVQ level 2 or higher in bench joinery, or equivalent qualification is desirable.
• Proven experience in practical woodworking
• Good communication and organisational skills
• Good time management skills
• IT literate desirable
• The ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh is desirable
