A day in the life of a Murphy Assistant Welding Engineer
- Control of documentation associated with weld procedure specifications, qualifications, records and welder qualifications
- Review welding specifications at bid stages
- Run weld procedures at Leeds and on-site
- Raise test house instructions for WPQR’s and WQT’s & review results
- Compile WPQR’s and WQT packages
- Ensuring company management procedures are carried out
- Continual reviews of welding techniques/procedures and the introduction of improvements to operations
- Manage Project welding procedure qualification activities and maintain weld procedure and welder qualification registers
- Monitor production welding activities and trouble shoot any potential issues
- Evaluate causes of welding failures and implement corrective actions
- Attend regular operations and safety meetings as required.
- Ensure that the appropriate Risk Assessments are carried out for the preparation of specific Welding Processes/Method Statements for welding operations
- Prepare fabrication inspection and test plans tailored to the specific requirements of each project.
- Support the facility in maintaining compliance with BS EN ISO 3834-2 Certification

- Professional welding qualifications are highly beneficial (e.g. International Institute of Welding (IIW) / European Welding Federation (EWF) Welding Technologist or Specialist status
- Professionally Qualified Engineer (e.g. UK minimum HND/foundation degree or other national equivalent) in an engineering discipline.
- Knowledge of Automatic and/or Manual welding of pipeline/pipe work, welding engineering or metallurgical experience/background
- Welding experience in a fabrication environment is required.
- Working knowledge of various NDE techniques
- An ability to understand and assess technical problems, enabling you to generate solutions through application of process knowledge, experimental trials and process development. Along with a hands on approach.
