Summary

TThe post holder will work under the supervision of a registered nurse to assist the Chemotherapy Team in providing the highest possible standard of care for patients and their families. The post holder will provide high quality, evidence based care to patients and carers. This will include Oncology and Haematology patients attending for chemotherapy, medical investigations and patients who self-refer for advice and care. To provide support to new and junior members of staff within the team. To assit in admitting pateints to the unit, completing demographic detaisl and recording base-line observations. *To provide care to patients following instructions in the care plan, programme or pathway. * To demonstrate competence in the accurate recording of routine clinical observations. *To recognise abnormal recordings or signs of change in a patient's condition and report changes to a registered nurse. * To assess patient's level of dependence in meeting personal care needs and give appropriate assistance (includes hygiene, mobility, nutrition, elminiation and comfort). * To assist patients to eat and drink in a sensitive and supportive manner. *To accurately record information on patient food charts and fluid balance chrts, reporting concenrs to a registered nurse. * To carry out clinical skills relevant to the ward/department and patient group (eg phlebotomy, ECG recording, simple dressings). *To assist in escorting, transferring and discharging patients, ensuring all property is packed and the bed area is prepared for the next patient. *To ensure treatment rooms and ward areas are adequately stocked and tidy. *To participate in clinical supervision. *To assist in resolving conflict by responding to conerns and complaints in a positive manner.
