Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday–Friday
Contract Type: Temporary, Anticipated 3 months
Location: Dorchester, Dorset
Postcode: DT1 1XJ

Working Arrangement: Flexibility to work from home. The team meets in Dorchester on Tuesdays for a weekly team meeting. Court attendance, usually in Bournemouth, may also be required. You should be able to meet the travel requirements of the role.

In order to apply for this role you will be a qualified Lawyer/Solicitor (England and Wales) along with experience of working within Adult Social Care.

The role:

On behalf of a local council, we are seeking a Solicitor / qualified Lawyer Qualified Lawyer or Legal Executive provide legal and advisory services to the Council, its Directorates, and external clients. You will be responsible for ensuring legality and propriety in Council matters while delivering professional advice, drafting, negotiation, and representation in relevant practice areas.



Key Responsibilities:

Court of Protection cases – s21a MCA 2005 and welfare applications
Ordinary residence advice
Mental Health Act advice
Care Act 2014 advice
Displacement of Nearest Relative

What the client is looking for:

Qualified Lawyer, Barrister, or Legal Executive
Previous experience working in Social care Law
Ability to draft legal documentation, research, problem-solve, and undertake advocacy
Ability to manage workload priorities, work under pressure, and deliver to deadlines
Willingness to work as part of a team and support colleagues
Experience working within a local authority legal department
Knowledge and experience of Local Government Law
Understanding of democratic decision-making processes in a local government environment.
