We're on a journey to build a workforce reflective of our Borough.
We are committed to fostering diverse teams where everybody can bring their authentic selves to work and feel that they belong. If you want to work for a Council where everybody is encouraged to meet their full potential and make a difference in our neighbourhoods, we would love to hear from you!
Your role:
A rewarding role that sees you part of a committed team that maintains health and wellbeing and reduces decline of our customers (aged 50+) with a critical diagnosis including dementia. Open Monday to Friday we provide all the activities and support required to offer a person-centred setting that is focussed on both mental and physical health. We achieve outcomes for our customers regardless of abilities or barriers and include them as much as possible whilst being a point of support for family and carers.
Necessary training will be available for you to complete your role and develop skills and knowledge.
About you:
An ideal member of our team would be energetic and not afraid to take risks, enjoying their role with a sense of humour. They would work in a busy, quick changing setting and not be phased by emergencies or incidents.
Being responsible for you own development and ensure you have the competency to complete your role to a high standard. Compassionate and calm and an excellent listener to customers and their loved ones. Expected to support out in the community and have a willingness to be flexible on occasional out of hour activities or events.
About us:
Wigan Council has been voted ‘Overall Council of the Year’ at the APSE (Association for Public Service Excellence) Awards. We are signed up to the Greater Manchester Continuous Service Commitment ensuring that your service will be continuous or 'unbroken' between the supporting organisations.
The Progress with Unity plan is a place movement for change for the next decade, bringing a new era for Wigan Borough. It draws on the strengths of our individual organisations, recognising that together we can achieve much more for our communities by delivering on our 2 place missions; create fair opportunities for all children, families, residents and businesses and make our towns and neighbourhoods flourish for those who live and work in them.
Etherstone is known for its family feel, likened to a home from home. A safe, calming yet modern environment that reduces anxiety and reassures carers and family. We support individuals with dementia as young as 55 and over 100 and cater to all their likes, preferences and goals.
Our outcomes are often small but meaningful but also big achievements. An important support system for the customer and their families. Committed to making a difference in peoples lives as well as helping them maintain the small things that are truly important and make them who they are.
Here at Wigan, we are proud to support flexible working patterns, when the service can accommodate this. We also take a blended approach to where we work, depending on the work we do. This may include working from home, the office, or the community.
