Summary

Communication Skills -To communicate sensitive and complex information to patients and their relatives. -Provide specialist advice to a range of health care professionals. -Provide expert clinical advice and support to the multidisciplinary team. -Liaise with other nursing staff and members of the multidisciplinary team in order to achieve optimum levels of care. -Compiles comprehensive medical and nursing records in accordance with Trust guidelines and NMC standards. Analytical and Judgmental Skills -Analyse complex information and situations, make judgments and respond appropriately ensuring patient safety -Assess patient needs and work within protocols, and policy re adjusting scope of practice, - Initiate investigations and treatment process where appropriate. - Refer patients for medical assessment when specific skills are needed. - Provide a prompt response to calls regarding patients from ward areas, during the out of 'normal working hours' period, - Use highly developed skills to prioritise clinical need and organise workload. - Ensure that patients are reviewed regularly with reassessment of the treatment plan, Initiating changes -Liaise with colleagues in other areas of the trust to ensure the smooth transfer of patients within the hospital(s). -Provide clinical expertise and act as role model to all members of the ward team. -Ensure the patients rights, dignity and confidentiality are protected at all times. Planning and Organisational skills -Organise own work on day-to-day basis - Able to balance clinical/non clinical demands and respond appropriately - Respond appropriately to unexpected events - Prioritising calls from ward based nursing staff. -Ensures the delivery of evidence based medical and nursing care to patients. This post demands highly developed physical skills where a degree of dexterity and precision are essential. -Translate theory into the practical delivery of care, which may involve a range of practical tasks e.g. - Intravenous drug administration - Venepuncture and Intravenous Cannulation. - Prescribing and administering medications and fluids - Physical assessment and diagnosis - Recording and interpretation of a 12 lead E.C.G. - Male catheterisation. - Defibrillation - Advanced airway skills. - Standard keyboard skills to access blood results and x-rays via PACS system.Registered Nurse, Evidence of Study at Degree level, Completion of 'Physical assessment Skills' Course and now pracitising the same, Independent nurse prescriber, Advanced Life Support
