Summary

I am a 73 year old gentleman with vascular dementia. I have 9hrs a week support, to enable my primary carer to complete chores and appointments. I was brought up on a farm, I enjoy nature, wildlife, all animals and talking about cars and have a good sense of humour. I do like 1 to 1 chats but often like peace and quiet too. I would like support to take me to a memory lane choir on a Tuesday morning (9.30am-12.30pm) or stay with me whilst my wife goes. Other support can be flexible, but some occasional weekend work would be required (once a month).

9 hours per week - days and times are flexible and can be discussed at interview
Tues 9.30am to 12.30pm
Thurs or Fri 2.30pm to 6.30pm
Sat and Sun once every 4 weeks 1pm to 5pm

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Support and/or prompt with personal care. This may include toileting, showering/bathing, getting in and out of bed, getting dressed.
Support and/or prompt with cooking/meal preparation and eating meals/drinks.
Support and/or prompt the individual to take medication.
Assist with household chores and general homemaking.
Support with food shopping.
Assist and encourage socialisation, participating in activities.
Develop a good and trusting one to one working relationship.

SKILLS REQUIRED:
To be honest, reliable, trustworthy and punctual.
Maintain confidentiality and respect privacy, including the prohibited use of social media in relation to the job role.
To be able to work on own initiative.
To be able to follow instructions accurately.
Be patient, supportive and caring.
Have good listening skills and be able to provide non-judgemental emotional support.
To be empathetic.
Previous caring experience is not essential, however you should have a genuine interest in supporting people with a disability/illness to achieve their goals.
Be able to work flexibly, adapting to the employers needs on a daily basis.
Flexibility would be an advantage as the hours may be variable.
Be self-motivated with a willingness to get involved.

Due to the nature of the role a dbs check will be required.

Moving and handling training to be provided by the employer.
