Summary
The following are the core responsibilities of the Phlebotomist and administrator. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels: a. Obtaining patient consent for the collection of a blood sample b. Performing venepuncture in accordance with practice protocols c. Maintaining accurate patient records on the clinical IT system d. The correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples e. Effective use of the specimen log, resolving any discrepancies f. Ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner g. Maintaining an effective liaison with the NHS Trust laboratory staff h. Working collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary for patient related matters i. Producing daily printed blood forms for clinics, ensuring the requests are verify if required by the GP or requester j. Supporting the patient population by calling patients who are booked in to long term condition clinics ensuring DNA response is low. k. Supporting patients who require blood tests by monitoring their take up of appointment booking links. Ensuring safety netting of tests. l. Responsible for ordering of all consumables related to the nursing teams work and ensuring correct and appropriate stock levels are achieved to ensure zero wastage. m. Providing day to day administration and rota support to the lead nurse, ensuring clinics are well managed, amendments or changes made as required. n. Providing administration support to the lead nurse, for meetings and appraisals. Producing minutes of meetings and maintaining document management for the practice.
