Summary
Rate of pay: £12.50 per hour, rising to £12.75 after probation upon direct employment
Hours: Flexible 7.5hr days – minimum 3 days per week, with potential for full time
Location: Across Cornwall (travel required)
Contract: Temporary to Permanent after 12 weeks probation
Role Overview
We are seeking Employment Support Assistantsto help young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) develop independence, confidence, and essential life skills.
The role involves supporting learners in workplace settings, travel training, and life skills such as cooking. You will provide encouragement, guidance, and practical support to ensure students can carry out tasks successfully, while promoting safety and wellbeing.
This is a flexible role well-suited to individuals with patience, understanding, and the ability to build positive relationships between employers and learners.
Key Responsibilities
• Support SEND learners during work placements across Cornwall.
• Break down instructions into smaller, manageable steps.
• Encourage learners by providing praise, reassurance, and guidance.
• Remind learners of health and safety considerations.
• Accompany learners on public transport and provide travel training.
• Assist in developing life skills such as cooking and independent living.
• Liaise with employers to ensure workplace expectations are understood.
• Undertake safeguarding, Prevent, and extended training as required.
Requirements
• Patient, empathetic, and encouraging approach
• Knowledge of Safeguarding and Prevent (or willingness to train)
• Full UK driving licence (clean) and access to a vehicle –travel across Cornwall required
• Flexibility to work across different workplaces and environments
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Experience working with SEND individuals preferred
• Willingness to undergo enhanced DBS checks and provide references
