Summary
The Government People Group (GPG) exists to work with departments, professions, and functions to build a modern, effective Civil Service. We support the government workforce with the right skills and capability. We are working with leaders to get the right people in the right jobs, with the right skills and continuous learning to excel in their roles.
Government Skills, formally Government Skills and Curriculum unit, was created in 2020 to improve the coherence and quality of learning and development in government through better training, knowledge and networks. It is the backbone behind The Campus, a term used to unite all the locations, on and offline, where over 450,000 Civil Servants across Government develop the skills, knowledge and networks they need.
The aim was to accelerate the development of the skills, knowledge and networks of all civil servants, reaching across the wider public sector and delivering better public services for citizens across the country.
As we move into a new era under a new Government the aim is to reduce the cost of learning and improve the quality of outputs by moving to a new operating model. This is an exciting time of growth for Government Skills with new positions being created to support the future operating model.
We are recruiting for two Learning Designer and Delivery roles that will form part of a growing team, sitting at the heart of Government Skills’ design and delivery of a modern targeted curriculum for all civil servants. These current roles will focus on digital and AI skills principally.
The design and delivery team will be operating flexibly, with Learning Designers and deliverers expected to lead and contribute to multiple projects, mainly in the digital/AI space, with fantastic developmental opportunities. The team will be growing significantly in 2025.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Creating, testing, and developing user-centred and evidence-based digital learning solutions for civil servants
- Managing and developing a range of products focused on equipping civil servants with essential digital and AI skills - aligning also with a curriculum curated from a range of departmental learning products
- Delivering digital and AI products as necessary
- Show a strong commitment to your own growth and learning by continuously developing your skills and staying up to date with the latest learning and development practices.
- Coordinating and convening stakeholders such as Departments, Professions and cross-Whitehall networks
- Communicating learning opportunities across Whitehall, working with the Govt Skills
- Applying programme management techniques
- Designing and implementing approaches to measuring impact and evaluating the effectiveness of interventions.
This is about designing and delivering an effective approach to skills development across government, building on existing initiatives.
