Summary

We’re looking for a Service Assistant to join us at Hardwick Hall to help busy teams throughout our visitor operations.

This is a zero-hour contract, meaning we can’t guarantee a set number of hours each week. While we aim to provide a consistent work pattern, flexibility is needed as schedules may change based on business needs. We’ll try to give as much notice as possible. The role includes regular weekend working and a variation in shift times to cater for daytime and late-night openings. Please make sure you are available to work during the festive period. You'll work an average of 2-3 days per week with flexibility to do more hours.
Hardwick Hall is in a rural area so please think about how you’d be able to get here for work before you apply for this job.

For this role, you’ll need to complete our online assessment instead of using a C.V. or online application form. This will help us understand more about your strengths and give you more information on the role.

What it's like to work here
Hardwick, an impressive Elizabethan masterpiece, with a world-class collection, garden, flour mill (Stainsby Mill) and heritage listed estate, something for everyone. We're passionate about caring for this wonderful property and visitors are at the heart of all we do. You'll join a busy, driven team, who like a challenge and work at a fast pace. We collaborate with each other and the wider property to engage, share our stories and provide a personal, tailored, and exceptional service.

This is a great place to work and an exciting time to join the friendly 60+ team and over 400 volunteers, and we're looking for you to bring energy and ideas to this vibrant property.

What you'll be doing
The core part of your job is to give vital and positive support to your colleagues, wherever you’re needed, with a focus on greeting and helping visitors.

No two days will be the same. You can expect to meet many different people and gain experience in different visitor areas. You’ll get involved in all kinds of tasks, including greeting visitors on arrival, restocking the shelves in the shop and clearing tables in the café.

Most importantly, you’ll be talking to visitors, answering their questions and making sure they can find everything they need to enjoy their day.

In this role, you'll be doing manual handling, frequently going up and down 3 sets of stairs and working in the Hall which can be cold. You'll also need an awareness and sensitivity of our historic collection.

Who we're looking for
We’d love to hear from you if you’re:

focused on giving great service to everyone you meet
a team player, but also happy to work on your own initiative
well-organised and adaptable
willing to learn new skills
