Summary

What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking to enhance our school support team through the appointment of a Learning Mentor (TA2b) who will contribute to the pastoral care and academic support we provide for all our pupils. This role will be primarily based in our secondary phase, supporting pupils with a range of special educational needs and/or social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.

An interest in sports or PE would be an advantage, particularly in supporting pupils during active interventions or break-time activities. Additionally, the ability and willingness to support pupils with their progress in literacy and/or numeracy would be beneficial.

The successful applicant will work collaboratively with teachers and other support staff to ensure the holistic learning needs of all pupils with additional needs are met. Our Learning Mentors build positive, supportive and constructive relationships with pupils, parents, carers and school staff, contributing ideas and strategies to benefit pupil wellbeing and progress. They assist with the planning, delivery and evaluation of the curriculum, ensuring that high-quality learning experiences are accessible to all.

As a Learning Mentor at Ribblesdale, you will:

• Plan and deliver learning activities for individuals and groups across the secondary age range.
• Plan and deliver a range of intervention strategies, some of which may take place before school and during pupils’ breaks and lunchtimes.
• Provide 1:1 and small group mentoring sessions for vulnerable pupils.
• Work closely with The Bridge, our internal inclusion provision, supporting pupils who struggle to self-regulate or need short-term respite from mainstream learning.
• Engage in training to enable you to make optimal use of educational technology to support pupils’ learning.
• Support subject specialist teachers in making the curriculum accessible to all learners and in implementing quality first teaching strategies.
• Take ownership of a specific intervention or area of support, depending on your experience and strengths.
