Summary

The Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a skilled and motivated Reporting Radiographer to join our Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DXA) service.

This is a pivotal role in delivering high-quality bone density assessments, supporting accurate diagnosis, and ensuring excellent standards of patient care. The post holder will be responsible for reporting DXA scans in line with ROS standards, alongside managing the day-to-day operations of the DXA service. You will contribute to service development, uphold quality standards, and support research and innovation in DXA and bone health.

Clinical duties will include performing DXA scans and providing training, guidance, and mentorship to radiographic staff. Working as part of the wider multidisciplinary team, you will help to streamline patient pathways and ensure safe, efficient, and patient-centred care.

This post offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the growth of imaging services across the NCA, supporting the needs of an ageing population and those living longer with complex health conditions.

The post holder will undertake the advanced practice role of independently interpreting and reporting DXA scans, alongside wider clinical specialist radiographer duties. This includes producing formal written reports that demonstrate highly developed specialist knowledge in the diagnosis and management of patients, while ensuring compliance with locally agreed standards, audit processes, and learning reviews. All reports must be structured, in line with ROS Standards and use appropriate terminology, and provide clear management recommendations.

Responsibilities will also include producing final validated reports, participating in audit and discrepancy review, and managing an individual caseload of patients with accurate and timely record keeping.

In addition, the post holder will provide clinical support, supervision, and guidance to colleagues within the DXA department. As a Band 7 radiographer, they will hold management responsibility for junior staff within the radiology department, supporting their development through supervision, teaching, and mentorship. The role will also involve teaching radiographers, radiologists, students, and assistant practitioners, as well as maintaining engagement in CPD and other developmental activities to support service quality and professional growth.
