Summary
Murray Recruitment are recruiting a Specialist Bookkeeper / VAT Specialist for our client based in South Lanarkshire.
Role Overview:
This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established accountancy practice supporting a diverse client base across sectors including construction, hospitality, and retail. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality VAT and bookkeeping services with approximately 70% of the role focused on preparing and submitting VAT returns for clients, and the remaining time dedicated to general bookkeeping duties.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and submit VAT returns in line with HMRC regulations (approx. 70% of role)
Perform day-to-day bookkeeping duties for a range of clients
Use accounting software including Xero, QuickBooks, and SAGE
Liaise with clients to collect financial data and resolve any queries
Ensure accurate and up-to-date financial records to support reporting
Work closely with internal colleagues to maintain high standards of client service
Skills & Experience:
Strong experience in VAT return preparation and bookkeeping, ideally within an accountancy practice
Proficiency in using Xero, QuickBooks, or SAGE
Excellent understanding of VAT legislation and compliance requirements
High attention to detail with solid numerical and analytical skills
Clear and professional communication skills, both written and verbal
Ability to manage multiple deadlines and client needs effectively

Competitive salary, dependent on experience
Flexible working hours: core hours 10am – 3pm, with flexitime between 7am – 7pm and the ability to carry over up to 10 hours per month
