Summary
Historic England have a fantastic opportunity for you to join us as our Historic Places Adviser (SW).
This is a Part Time, Fixed-Term Contract, until the 1st September 2026, based in Bristol with hybrid working.

What you will be doing
As part of this team, you will work with local authorities and partners to promote the appreciation and enhancement of historic areas so that people, places and communities all benefit from their heritage.
You will develop partnerships and identify funding for preserving and enhancing the character or appearance of places such as Conservation Areas at Risk, historic high streets and other priority areas, advising on the delivery of projects to sustain and enrich these historic places.
You will support colleagues across the Region in delivering positive place-based advice through, for example, masterplans design codes and contributing to national and local guidance. You will also lead the Historic England contribution to supporting effective Neighbourhood Plans.
Who we are looking for
A degree or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline
A proven track record in managing positive change to historic places
A proven track record of working constructively with Local Authorities, other organisations, developers and community groups
Experience of project management and delivery
Knowledge of statutory procedures relating to the historic environment in the planning system
Specialist knowledge of applying urban design principles to area-based strategies (e.g. master planning)
