Informal enquires and visits are welcomed by contacting Dr Daniel Menzies Consultant Respiratory Medicine - Daniel.Menzies@wales.nhs.uk Roles & responsibilities Research and Quality Improvement (3 days per week) Formulate a novel research question, develop a protocol and undertake a programme of high-quality supervised research leading to the award of a higher post-graduate research degree Work with a named Principal Investigator to expand the portfolio of clinical trials within respiratory medicine including Appraising potential new trials for adoption Participating in the site initiation visits, recruitment of participants, undertaking clinical trial related visits and procedures, gathering data and working with the clinical trial team to deliver all elements of clinical trial activity Identify areas for quality improvement within respiratory medicine and design and implement change that leads to better patient focused clinical outcomes Clinical 1. Assume responsibility for clinical role in care of the respiratory medicine, at level commensurate with experience. Respiratory experience will be gained in the specialist asthma clinic, the asthma MDT, the lung cancer clinic and the lung cancer MDT. These are research active clinics, so there is a natural combination of specialist experience dovetailed with clinical trial recruitment and research activity. There is one day per week on call in acute internal medicine. This is a fixed session, based in the Emergency Quarter undertaking general medical receiving at medical registrar level. Education 1. Contribute to placement and clinical supervision of students. 2. Run the respiratory departmental education programme 3. Deliver lecture, classroom and simulation-based teaching to students in relation to chronic disease specialties and geriatric medicine and other aspects of undergraduate curricula. 4. Mentor of students and junior colleagues involved with medical education. 5. Help to identify teaching and training opportunities within the acute and community hospitals and channel these resources for the benefit of the students. 6. Undertake education development and quality improvement project activity with the support of the local and wider Medical Education team. Person Specification Essential Desirable Qualifications MB ChB or equivalent GCP certificate MRCP Experience Completion of foundation programme (F2) Two years of post-foundation programme clinical practice Skills Effective communication skills, written and verbal Effective organisational skills and good multi-tasking ability Problem solving capabilities Accurate record-keeping, attention to detail Computer literate Excellent interpersonal skills Excellent presentation skills Teaching skills Enthusiasm for teaching Demonstrable experience of teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level Research Exposure to research methodology at some level Peer reviewed publications Evidence of national or international conference presentation
