We're using fresh ideas and leading-edge tech to build and maintain digital solutions that will be used by nearly every person in the UK, every day and at key moments in their lives.

DWP is the UK's largest government department. We help people into work and make payments worth over £195bn a year to support and empower millions of people.

The scale of what we do is extraordinary, and our purpose is unique. We'd love you to join us.

What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?

  • Lead Criteria: Extensive experience of designing, building and improving comprehensive, robust and reliable automated testing solutions against complex microservice based architectures.
  • Experience leading testing across multiple teams in the lifecycle from understanding business needs to delivery into production. Including technical leadership, test generation, reporting, defect management, and continuous improvement.
  • Depth of experience and demonstrable capability in a modern programming language, ideally Java or JavaScript/TypeScript, and automated testing practices and proven ability to learn more.
  • Extensive experience of testing in cloud-based environments. Experience of containerisation, orchestration would be beneficial.
  • Experience of working closely with Software Developers and DevOps engineers to lead the setup and adoption of continuous integration, delivery and deployment practices to shift Quality left.
  • Experience of conducting and enabling non-functional testing such as Performance, Security and Accessibility - including test types, test tools, and standards.

You and your role

We're looking for talented Senior Test Engineers who want to make a real impact by helping shape digital services that millions of people rely on. You'll be part of a team that's all about quality by designing and building smart automated test solutions that keep our services running smoothly and securely.

You'll be working in the Identity and Trust team, helping citizens access vital DWP services. It's a role for someone who's detail oriented, passionate about fast feedback and confident making decisions that support well-assured systems. You'll lead by example, support other engineers and collaborate across disciplines to make sure our services are robust, accessible and built to last.

If you're into modern testing practices, love working with Java or JavaScript/TypeScript and want to be part of something meaningful, we want to hear from you.

Location: You'll join us in one of our brilliant digital hubs in Birmingham, Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle or Sheffield, whichever is most convenient for you.
