Your new company
Birmingham City Council is committed to supporting residents in need of temporary accommodation across the city. As part of its housing services team, the council is recruiting a Temporary Accommodation Support Officer to help ensure properties are safe, compliant, and ready for occupancy. This is a fast-paced, hands-on role that plays a vital part in maintaining housing standards and supporting vulnerable individuals.
Your new role
This is a full-time position, working 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm. The role is based at Kings Road, Tyseley, and involves city-wide coverage of temporary accommodation properties. Each day begins on-site, followed by visits to properties across Birmingham. You will be responsible for servicing empty properties, conducting routine assessments of furniture and household items to ensure safety and compliance, and carrying out lock changes. Properties may have recently been vacated, and assessments must be completed before new occupants move in. You may also contact customers by phone to confirm what is required at each property. A list of addresses will be provided daily.
This role involves lone working, although you will shadow a senior team member during your first week. It is a KPI-driven environment, so strong time management and a proactive, can-do attitude are essential. The contract is expected to startASAP and is likely to be extended based on performance and service needs.
What you'll need to succeed
To succeed in this role, you must be reliable, adaptable, and able to cope with a fast-paced workload. You'll need a full UK driving licence, access to your own vehicle, and business insurance (which can be added later). A Basic DBS check is required prior to starting. You should be confident working independently, have good communication skills, and be comfortable using technology to manage your workload and report findings.
What you'll get in return
You will receive a competitive pay rate of £12.60 per hour plus holiday allowance, bringing the total to £14.12 per hour for the first 13 weeks. After this period, the rate increases to £14.32 per hour plus holiday allowance, totalling £16.77 per hour. Mileage and parking expenses are reimbursed. You'll be part of a supportive team making a real difference in the lives of Birmingham residents, with the opportunity to extend your contract and grow within the role.
