The Role:
As our Kitchen Porter, you will play a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and organised environment within the kitchen. You will support the kitchen team by ensuring that all equipment, utensils, and cookware are properly maintained and cleaned, enabling the smooth running of kitchen operations.
You will help create a productive and effective kitchen environment by adhering to the highest standards of hygiene and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain cleanliness and tidiness in all kitchen areas, including workstations, floors, and storage areas.
- Clean, sanitise, and maintain kitchen equipment, utensils, and cookware according to manufacturer’s instructions.
- Manage cleaning schedules to ensure that all kitchen items are properly washed and stored in the correct locations.
- Assist with organising kitchen supplies and materials, ensuring that all items required for service are readily available.
- Report any malfunctioning equipment, damaged walls, floors, or light fittings to the Head Chef or Chief Steward for repair.
- Ensure that cleaning equipment is maintained in good working order and follow the proper procedures for safe usage.
- Work closely with the culinary team to ensure smooth coordination during service, providing support where needed.
- Follow health and safety guidelines, including adherence to COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health), HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points), and relevant food safety regulations.
- Handle and store cleaning chemicals and materials safely and in accordance with company policies.
- Work as part of the team to ensure that all duties are carried out efficiently, including end-of-shift procedures.
- Ensure compliance with environmental programs to minimise waste and optimise resource use.

The ideal candidate will have experience working in a commercial kitchen environment, with a strong focus on hygiene, safety, and organisation. You should possess good communication skills and work effectively as part of a team, always ensuring the smooth running of kitchen operations.
A positive attitude, the ability to follow instructions, and a genuine passion for supporting the culinary team are essential for success in this role.
Previous experience with cleaning chemicals and safety protocols will be an advantage, as well as a Basic Food Hygiene Certification.
