Summary

NH Care is a provider of residential care and education provision for children. Based in Birmingham we have 5 homes, where the children in our care, can thrive in a safe and caring environment. NH Care also has a small independent school for 11–16-year-olds (New Horizon Academy), who have Special Educational Needs (SEN) and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. The Role

As a Maintenance Assistant, you’ll play a key role in ensuring our homes and school are safe, well-maintained, and welcoming. Working under the guidance of the Maintenance Manager, you’ll help uphold the quality and integrity of our physical environments—supporting the wellbeing of both our young people and the staff who care for them.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct regular maintenance inspections and identify repair/refurbishment needs
• Provide accurate assessments and costings for maintenance tasks
• Support a rolling programme of redecoration, refurbishment, and grounds upkeep
• Respond swiftly to emergency and urgent maintenance requests
• Carry out planned maintenance including painting, decorating, and basic plumbing/electrical work

Main Duties

• Perform general maintenance across NH Care premises
• Assist with both preventative and reactive maintenance tasks
• Maintain records and checks in line with regulatory and internal standards
• Use equipment safely and cost-effectively
• Log and communicate service requests to the Maintenance Manager
• Prioritise competing demands to ensure high levels of satisfaction
• Support the transport and storage of deliveries and supplies
• Complete and retain relevant paperwork and petty cash records in accordance with company policies


About you

You will be an experienced all-rounder with skills and experience in general maintenance and upkeep, including painting and decorating and gardening. You will be able to drive, and be willing to travel to our different homes across the Birmingham area. You will be hardworking and able to work at times unsupervised, adhering to all relevant statutory requirements and legislation. You will be able to prioritise tasks, and provide excellent customer service.

You will be able to work flexibly, across either 3 or 4 days per week.
