Your New Job

Your role will involve working closely with pupils who present themselves with social, emotional, and mental health needs, helping them to re-engage with learning through a trauma-informed approach. You'll support students both in and out of the classroom, contributing to their academic progress, emotional wellbeing, and personal development. You'll be working Monday to Friday, term-time only, in a calm and supportive environment where every day brings new challenges and rewards.

Your New Company

This independent specialist provision in Ashton-Under-Lyne offers a lifeline to young people who have disengaged from mainstream education due to trauma, adverse childhood experiences, or complex social circumstances. The school provides a bespoke curriculum, flexible timetables, and small class sizes, allowing students to access the National Curriculum in a way that suits their individual needs. With a strong emphasis on holistic development, the school works in partnership with families, social workers, and youth offending teams to create a safe and inclusive learning environment. Staff are passionate, welcoming, and committed to helping students build trust, regulate emotions, and develop aspirations for the future. The school is Ofsted registered and operates with a trauma-informed ethos, placing student wellbeing at the heart of everything it does.

What You'll Need to Succeed

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs, either in an educational, care, or youth work setting.
  • A calm, empathetic, and resilient approach to behaviour management.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students who may have experienced trauma or disrupted education.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable learners and helping them succeed.
  • A DBS on the update service or willingness to apply for one through Hays.

What You'll Get in Return

  • Competitive daily rate of pay.
  • Ongoing support from a dedicated Hays consultant.
  • Opportunity to work in a highly rewarding setting where you can make a real difference.
  • Access to Hays training and CPD opportunities.
  • Potential for a permanent role for the right candidate.
  • A welcoming and inclusive school environment with a strong team ethos.
