JOB TITLE Higher Level Teaching Assistant Bristol Grade BG9

Purpose of the Job

To make a strong contribution to pupils' learning and achievement.

To support and complement the work of the classroom teacher by delivering agreed learning activities.

To work effectively with individual pupils, small groups and whole classes.

Key Job Outcomes

Planning & Expectations

1. Effective contribution to teachers' planning and preparation of lessons.

2. Lessons are planned (within the framework by the teacher).

3. Pupils and colleagues receive feedback on pupils' learning and behaviour.

4. Effective selection and preparation of teaching resources, that meet the diversity of pupils' needs and interests.

5. Effective contribution to the planning of opportunities for pupils to learn in out-of-school contexts, in accordance with school policies and procedures.

Monitoring and Assessment

6. Teachers are supported in evaluating pupils' progress through a range of assessment activities.

7. Pupils' responses to learning are monitored and future approaches to preparing learning are modified accordingly.

8. Pupils' participation and progress is monitored, feedback is provided to teachers and constructive support is given to pupils as they learn.

9. Contribution is made to maintaining and analysing pupils' progress.

Teaching and Learning Activities

10. Clearly structured teaching and learning activities are used, which interest and motivate pupils and advance their learning.

11. Effective and sensitive communication with pupils occurs, which supports their learning.

12. Inclusion of all pupils in leaning activities is promoted and supported.

13. Behaviour management strategies are used in line with the school's policy and procedures, which contribute to a purposeful learning environment.

14. Pupil's learning is advanced in a range of classroom settings, including working with individuals, small groups and whole classes where the assigned teacher is not present.

15. (Where relevant) the work of other adults supporting teaching and learning is guided.

16. Stereotyped views, bullying or harassment are challenged by following the school's policies and procedures.
