Summary
Basingstoke Critical Care is excited to offer two posts for experienced Critical Care doctors wanting to develop their skills within Critical Care and beyond.
These posts are central to delivering effective patient care at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and form part of our exciting new strategy to expand the delivery of our national peritoneal malignancy program. The post will be based in Basingstoke Critical Care Units and will involve working a full on-call pattern withing Basingstoke Critical Care with opportunity to develop additional skills in Anaesthetics as agreed with the Critical Care Department.
We have 18 Critical Care beds across 2 units (CCA and CCB) looking after the full range of medical specialties including supporting a 24 hour PCI service. In addition to this we run the largest cytoreductive surgical program in the UK for patients with primary colorectal and appendix tumours including Pseudomyxoma Peritonei (over 300 patients annually).
The successful applicants for these two posts will have arrange of educational opportunities available to them including gaining some anaesthetic and airway management skills that may aid transition to a career in Anaesthesia, developing their POCUS skills, or undertaking research into major surgical perioperative care in conjunction with the Peritoneal Malignancy Institute.
A formal job plan will be agreed between the appointee and the clinical supervisor. The principal component of this job is to hold one of 8 posts covering a 24/7 rota in Critical Care. We use a bespoke rota design software package (DB rotas) that means that these shifts are not necessarily in a rolling 1:8 basis but allow the holders to request working patterns around leave requests and other prior commitments.
Duties will include being part of the Senior Critical Care rota overseeing emergency admissions from the wards, the Emergency Department, Theatres and the Cath Lab. Additionally we will expect you to partake in ICU handover, regular ICU ward rounds, invasive procedures on ICU, and also to undertake quality improvement work and contribute to the educational program for the junior medical team. Out of hours you will be supported by a consultant in intensive care and consultant general anaesthetist, both non-resident.
For those post holders interested in furthering their Anaesthetic skills there could be opportunities across a range of surgical disciplines including General Surgery, Peritoneal Malignancy, Urology, ENT, O&G, Paediatrics and Trauma & Orthopaedics.
