Summary
We are looking for a Community Transport Driver to operate one of our two minibuses which are used to assist clients in getting to and from lunch clubs and other social and support groups.
The vacancy is for up to 10 hours per week, ideally worked on Monday and Tuesday to support a lunch club and an exercise class - there may be some flexibility in working days which will be discussed on application.
Main duties
• To transport our clients to and from various locations in the BH23 area.
• Working closely with the Bus Buddy, to assist any clients using mobility aids, such as wheelchairs/rollators, in and out of vehicles and to operate the tail lift for those unable to access the vehicle via the main steps.
• To carry out vehicle checks and complete a daily checklist before and after taking vehicles out.
• To carry out basic internal cleaning of the vehicles.
• To comply with statutory and CCP driving regulations to include the wearing of a visibility jacket and a name badge.
• To liaise closely with the Transport Coordinator to work out efficient bus routes and timings.
• To maintain good relationships with colleagues, clients and the general public, at all times acting in a professional manner.
• To report to the Office Manager any safety or other issues which impact upon your ability to carry out your responsibilities.
• Whilst on duty to assist with any other general duties relevant to the organisations aims and objectives, i.e.; to assist with drawing up driving schedules, to provide refreshments for clients, to carry out first aid provided you have received the necessary training, assist in delivering the bus to routine maintenance appointments.
Skills and Experience Required:
• To hold a driving licence passed pre 1997 which enables you to drive a minibus carrying up to 16 passengers for a charitable organisation under category D1 (101) of the licence, or hold a D1 licence
• To hold a driving licence currently free of any driving endorsements.
• To be prepared to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check.
• Ability to commit to the ad hoc nature of the post.
• Have the physical strength to manoeuvre an adult in a wheelchair.
• To be a good team player with a willingness to work flexibly.
• To have good interpersonal and communication skills
• Commitment to equal opportunities.
• If not have already then be prepared to undertake MIDAS training for the post.
• To be prepared to attend other training deemed necessary to the organisations aims and objectives i.e.; Safeguarding Adults, Moving and Handling, First Aid. This may involve attending training outside of regular working hours for which you will either be paid or be able to take time off in lieu.
Being able to deal with unexpected issues, make decisions under pressure and to deal with every client, customer and
colleague in a kind and patient manner is essential.
Basic IT skills to enable updating of Excel and Word documents and using emails
to liaise with colleagues is desirable.
