Summary

We provide surgery for all aspects of benign upper gastrointestinal disease. We have a regional complex benign upper GI MDT and a dedicated diagnostic oesophageal laboratory. We are the regional centre for early rectal and anal cancer with specialist interests in locally advanced and recurrent rectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease (pouch surgery and Crohns resection). We are also the regional pelvic floor unit, with regular multidisciplinary meetings held in each of these subspecialties. Our team also have interests in laparoscopic resection for both benign and malignant disease. A combined Intestinal Failure centre in conjunction with Kings College Hospital has been developed in recent years. We aspire to provide patient focused dedicated colorectal cancer care delivered through the highest quality of clinical care based on research and best practice. We also perform endocrine surgery and treatment for thyroid problems including thyroid cancer, parathyroid and adrenal diseases. We undertake surgery on regional lymph nodes, nodules, goitre and for thyrotoxicosis. Minimal access surgery for parathyroid and laparoscopic adrenalectomy is also available. As an organisation we are committed to developing our services in ways that best suit the needs of our patients. This means that some staff groups will increasingly be asked to work a more flexible shift pattern so that we can offer services in the evenings or at weekends.
