Summary
Role overview
The CNC Turner will set and operate turning centres to manufacture leadscrews, shafts, nuts, and other machined parts. The role requires confident use of measurement tools, first-off verification, and support for continuous improvement activities.
Key responsibilities
-Set and operate CNC lathes (Siemens, Fanuc, Mazatrol) for small and large components.
-Load programs, adjust offsets, and verify dimensions against drawings.
-Carry out first-off and in-process inspection using micrometers, verniers, bore gauges, and height gauges.
-Work with planning to meet job priorities and promised due dates.
-Record issues, support root-cause analysis, and suggest improvements to reduce setup times and variability.
-Maintain a safe, organised work area and follow company procedures.
-Essential skills and experience
-Proven experience in CNC turning within a production environment.
-First-off inspection capability and confidence with dimensional checks.
-Understanding of cutting tools, materials, feeds, and speeds.
-Basic problem-solving and escalation when issues arise.
Desirable
-Experience with large-diameter or long-bed lathes.
-Familiarity with thread whirling, rack blanks, or similar heavy components.
-Exposure to lean methods such as 5S and SMED.
