Summary
Live-In Carer for a Man with a Spinal Cord Injury
2 weeks on; 2 weeks off (There's a possibility to work longer shifts by agreement) | £1025.64 per week
We are looking for an experienced and compassionate live-in carer to support a man in his 60's who has a traumatic spinal cord injury.
The client is paralyzed from the chest down and uses an electric wheelchair. He is at risk of Autonomic Dysreflexia, so you must understand how to manage this condition.
Your Responsibilities Will Include:
- Personal and Medical Care:
- Assisting with all personal care, including bowel care in bed.
- Making sure his elimination care plans are followed.
- Regularly emptying his catheter bag and checking that the tubing is not kinked.
- Doing his physiotherapy exercises for his arms and legs.
- Checking his skin regularly for any redness or pressure areas.
- Ensuring Comfort:
- Making sure there are no creases in his clothes or bedding.
- Household and Social Support:
- Helping with cooking, as he loves to be in the kitchen but has difficulty swallowing.
- Supporting him to go to the pub, out for meals with his wife, and on holidays.
He may speak louder to make his sentences clearer, so please don't be alarmed or offended by this.
To be a good fit for this role, you must:
- Be a driver with a full UK licence.
- Have no more than 6 points on your license.
