Summary
We are a department of nearly 80 consultants / specialists and 16 speciality doctors and are now looking for new consultants to join our dynamic and rapidly evolving anaesthetic team at York & Scarborough NHS Foundation Trust.Within the Trust we are part of theSurgeryCare Group, which includes most surgical specialties.
We have a Clinical Director responsible for the Theatres, Anaesthetics and Critical Care directorate (TACC) across the Trust supported by Lead Clinicians for Pain, Intensive Care, Anaesthetics and Theatres.
Surgical services are located principally at two acute hospitals, York and Scarborough
It is envisaged that the post holder will carry out their duties as a consultant in anaesthesia based at either York or Scarborough Hospital. There is a requirement to provide cross site -working in line with current patterns within the department to support robust and sustainable provision of workforce in anaesthesia. Currently, all of the Consultants provide cross-site work including some on-call work.
The posts are initially contracted for 10 programmed activities per week.
The demands of the Anaesthetic department mean that close and ongoing collaboration with consultant colleagues is required. A degree of mutual two-way flexibility in sessional provision is anticipated.
Individual job plans will be discussed and finalised with the clinical director on appointment and will become operational on commencement. All jobs plans are agreed in line with the Trusts Job Planning Principles.

On-call Arrangements
The post holder would be required to participate in the general on-call rota at their base hospital but to also provide some outside of their base in line with current agreements within the department. Suitable high quality accommodation will be provided when working at the non-base hospital. The out of hours cover is a mix of resident time and on call.
The on-call rota is currently defined as a Category A rota which requires consultants on-call to respond immediately to complex telephone enquiries or attend the hospital.
Out of hours provision is also supported by two resident trainees/speciality doctors in Scarborough & three in York. Separate consultants from the intensivist group currently cover critical care.
