Summary


An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Screening Nurse to join our Health, Work and Wellbeing Department

The post holder will be required to provide appropriate Occupational Health and Wellbeing advice to staff and managers. The post holder will assist in the delivery of a safe, effective, quality occupational health service. The post holder will strive to deliver key public health messages to staff and managers and work as part of a wider multidisciplinary team to ensure the organisation delivers 5-star patient care.

Supporting and driving change within the Occupational Health specialty with a flexible approach to hours and place of work depending on service needs.

The JD & PS are currently under AfC review and are subject to change
• Apply Occupational Health knowledge, principles and practice to assess clients both at pre-employment and during employment
• Duty nurse- including Management of exposure to body fluids and Sharps and outbreak management.
• To contribute to the delivery of proactive, efficient, confidential, and effective evidence based Occupational Health service for all users.
• Screen clients in relation to identified infectious disease risk and offer vaccination or advice as appropriate
• Administration of Vaccines
• Support and assess clients who have sustained occupational exposure to blood and bodily fluids in line with trust policy.
• Provide advice, screening and treatment (within parameters of approved Patient Group Directions), to clients regards work related infectious diseases exposure/contact.
• Facilitate and support clients in accessing Wellbeing Hub services
• Undertake peripatetic clinic work at various sites that will require transporting notes and equipment (manual handling)
• Support the delivery of Vaccination campaigns and other Occupational Health relevant public health campaigns in line with National guidance
• Work unsupervised within limits of competency

Providing adult community services for St Helens and a wheelchair service in Chorley, South Ribble, and West Lancashire. Our inpatient unit at Newton Community Hospital is where patients needing acute hospital beds can continue rehabilitation, freeing up space for more unwell patients. We also provide urgent care at our Urgent Treatment Centre located in St Helens town centre.

Specialist Regional Services

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

KEY DUTIES
• To contribute to the delivery of proactive, efficient, confidential, and effective evidence based Occupational Health service for all users.
• Work within clearly defined Occupational Health procedures, conferring with senior colleagues when appropriate
• To support the organisation with the pre-employment screening of clients
• Apply Occupational Health knowledge, principles and practice to assess clients both at pre-employment and during employment.
• Liaise with client’s specialist consultants and GP as required (in relation to pre-employment screening)
• To support Occupational Health services in the maintenance of departmental procedures to comply with clinical governance and service delivery requirements.
• Maintain accurate and confidential client records, (both electronic and written)
• Undertake the Duty Nurse role
• Undertake health surveillance and interpret the results in line with Trust Policy, National legislation and Department of Health guidance, using appropriate clinical measurement equipment. Discuss results and implications with the client and liaise with the Occupational Health Senior team, i.e. manager and/or Physician where appropriate

CLINICAL & PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• To use knowledge and skills to provide Occupational Health and Wellbeing advice to staff, managers, HR and other key stakeholders within own competency,
• Promote good practice and adopt evidence-based practice
• Work as an autonomous practitioner
• Ensure policy is adhered to with regard to all the administration of vaccinations in accordance with legal and Trust directorate procedures and to be responsible for the safe custody, storage and control of all drugs at department level ensuring the cold chain
• To supply and administer immunisations and vaccinations under the Patient Group Directions.
• Ensure all effective and efficient use of clinic appointments
• Manage own personal development to maintain current evidence best practice
• ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
• To utilise knowledge of systems/procedures in order to appropriately divert/refer service users to alternative/appropriate services and pathways
• To ensure that the recording of patient care is comprehensive, concise and in line with HWWB procedures, NMC record keeping guidance and Trust Policy and procedures.

TEACHING & TRAINING RESPONSBILITIES
• Act as a mentor and role model for new members of staff and students.
• Participate in the development and presentation of training material related to Occupational Health topics.
• Participate in the delivery of health education and promotion activities.

LINE MANAGEMENT/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Always maintain confidentiality
• Maintain effective communication with the Health Work and Wellbeing team and other multidisciplinary teams

RESEARCH & AUDIT
• Contribute to evidence-based practice and research projects within the clinical areas and ensure that written standards/protocols are formulated, utilised and reviewed regularly and as necessary.
• Contribute and actively take the lead in audits as required by SEQOHS
