Summary
Assistant SENCO required near Leatherhead in Surrey.
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Assistant SENCO to join our team at a school committed to an inclusive approach to special educational needs (SEN). The ideal candidate will have a passion for promoting positive outcomes for all students and will work alongside the SENDCo to provide high-quality, differentiated educational experiences.
Key Responsibilities-
Support and Leadership: Assist the SENDCo in promoting an inclusive approach to SEN throughout the school and help deliver professional development (CPD) for all teaching staff. You'll also support the development of transition arrangements for students and share good practices in SEN across the school.

Student Support and Communication: Contribute to the annual review process for students with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and communicate effectively with colleagues, parents, and other professionals to ensure students' wellbeing and development. You will also help with therapeutic interventions as outlined in student EHCPs.

Administration: Manage systems for identifying, reviewing, and monitoring student needs, including chairing annual reviews for EHCPs. You will also build relationships with local authority EHCP coordinators and other professionals in the field.

Professional Development: Stay informed about developments in SEN, including new research and changes to the law, and attend relevant training and conferences to provide feedback to colleagues.
Candidate Requirements

Qualifications: A teaching qualification is preferred but not essential. However, it is required to achieve the National Award in SEND Coordination. SENCO or Access Arrangement Assessor qualifications are also preferred, or a desire to obtain them. You should have English and Maths to at least Level 2.

Knowledge and Experience: You should have recent knowledge and experience working with students with SEN and a strong working knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice. Experience implementing a range of behaviour management approaches, including those for challenging behaviours, is also required.

Skills: The role requires a person-centred approach, excellent literacy and good numeracy skills, and confidence using terminology specific to the field of SEN. You must be able to work both independently and as part of a team, collaborating effectively with staff and other professionals.

Other: You must be eligible to work in the UK and have a satisfactory Enhanced DBS with barred list checks. The ability to assist with extracurricular activities and residential trips may also be required.
