Summary

The duties will involve the day-to-day care and management of in-patients with solid tumours undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy. This will include the management of general medical and/or oncological problems, and will necessitate a sound understanding of social care and palliative care in addition to general medicine. The post-holder will provide triage and emergency care to patients with complications of their cancer or cancer treatment. This care includes admission of patients, with appropriate assessment, organisation of routine and specialist investigations and the instigation of treatment. The post-holder will provide support to the Acute Oncology Advanced Nurse Practitioner. The post-holder will be expected to undertake out-patient and chemotherapy clinics, under the supervision of a consultant oncologist. The post-holder will be expected to gain chemotherapy prescribing competencies via the Chemotherapy Passport, and will then be able to prescribe chemotherapy, using the electronic prescribing system Chemocare, according to competencies gained. There will be opportunities for the post-holder to attend weekly multi-disciplinary meetings (MDTs).
