Summary
Management responsibilities Deputise for the Operational Team Managers/ Crisis Manager when required. Participate in the planning and development of the mental health liaison service. Ensure that communication is effective between all staff involved in the care and treatment of assessed patients. Attend and participate in meetings acting as a spokesperson/ representative for the trust as necessary. Be responsible for maintaining accurate and legible written records ensuring effective dissemination of relevant information within the Trust. Supply data for electronic records on time. To identify, develop and maintain ways in which cohesion may be maintained within the differing sites of the Bromley/Greenwich/Bexley mental health services and ensuring this is addressed. To be responsible for actively encouraging the promotion of mental health education by undertaking or participating in seminars, lectures, and workshops as appropriate. To develop and maintain the range of skills appropriate to the post and to keep up to date with research, publications and issues in the mental health/crisis intervention field and own professional discipline. To process and analyse complex information to formulate reports identifying specialist recommendations. At the direction of the Acute and Crisis Manager, undertake investigation reports. To be responsible for ensuring the Professional Codes of Conduct are adhered to within the multidisciplinary team. To participate when appropriate in a speedy and effective resolution of complaints. To demonstrate skills in performance management. To support on the recruitment of mental health liaison specialist practitioners. Leadership To provide day to day clinical and professional leadership to mental health liaison specialist clinicians. To provide supervision and guidance to clinicians with regards to their conduct and practice. To play a lead role in the recruitment of new staff within the team. To support in the delivery of robust induction programme for new staff as they commence service. To be innovative with networking and promoting the service across the trust and other relevant services. Participate with policy making and ensuring that the teamwork within a closely defined safety protocol. To work cohesively with operational team managers and Borough Crisis Managers to lead on high-quality, effective liaison services. To ensure continuous self-development both professionally and personally, through mandatory and non-mandatory training, supervision, and other appropriate means. To attend appropriate professional training courses/meetings by agreement with the Acute and Crisis Manager and in consultation with Training Department Clinical To conduct specialist mental health triage and assessment of clients presenting with an acute mental health crisis. To operate a Rapid Assessment and Treatment function for patients referred for specialist mental health assessment To demonstrate advanced risk assessment and management skills, practicing safely and according to individual service users needs. To lead the decision-making process in relation to the delivery of appropriate crisis resolution treatment. To lead, facilitate and deliver safe and effective crisis resolution treatment following the assessment. To be responsible for clinical liaison between the multidisciplinary team and the care co-ordinator to ensure care is maintained within the context of the multidisciplinary team. To be responsible for maintaining that the multidisciplinary team, assess, plan, implement and evaluate individual care for all clients on their caseload. To be responsible for monitoring, and where appropriate, participate in the joint assessment and co-working of patients with other team members and other professionals and agencies. To ensure the multidisciplinary team assist in providing clients with high quality information related to their illness/disorder and the service. To maintain high quality clinical records and statistical information, ensuring that all relevant information is documented in accordance with best practice guidelines. To present casework and clinical issues in clinical supervision, further developing the knowledge and skills in accordance with the role of a reflective practitioner. To carry a caseload of complex clients and challenging behaviours, as required by the service. Research Take a leading role in the implementation of evidence-based practice. Take responsibility for developing clinical audit capability and capacity in a defined area. The focus will be to ensure that current practice is underpinned by up-to-date research-based evidence and developing local action plans to meet trust wide and national priorities and standards. Lead in promoting and facilitating the development of education, training, and resources to promote local research, which will support and promote clinical effectiveness. Ensure systems are in place for the transfer and sharing of new knowledge and lessons learned from local and national research. Communication To liaise closely and effectively with colleagues in primary and secondary healthcare services to ensure well co-ordinated and consistent care for people who present to ED in a mental health crisis. To work closely with senior emergency department leads, care co- ordinators, community health teams, RC/consultant psychiatrists, duty doctors, social workers primary care staff and inpatient services to ensure timely, good quality care. Provide clinical advice and support around complex issues to colleagues and relevant carers. Liaise where appropriate with voluntary agencies to help create seamless patient care. Promote the establishment and maintain effective liaison with members of the primary and secondary health care teams, non-statutory agencies, and other professional disciplines where necessary to provide a comprehensive service to clients and their families. Communicate effectively with service users and their families/carers in highly emotive situations. Be responsible for ensuring the multidisciplinary team understand the importance of maintaining a professional effective therapeutic and pro- active relationship with any service user relative and/or carer in what may be stressful and distressing circumstances. Be responsible for ensuring the multidisciplinary team are able to balance the need to engage the service user and carers in a treatment plan whilst ensuring the relationship remains respectful and is as far as possible negotiating within a safe, therapeutic boundary. Ensuring the safe and effective delivery of high-quality multidisciplinary care to clients utilising the knowledge and skills of staff, whilst recognising and working towards helping them manage their stress in this demanding area of work.
