Summary

Teesside University is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in English and Creative Writing in the School of Arts and Creative Industries on a fixed-term contract for 12 months from January 2026.

You will hold a first degree in a relevant discipline or have an equivalent professional qualification or significant practical work experience and hold a PhD or equivalent doctoral qualification in English Literature, Creative Writing and/or aligned disciplines.

You will have expertise in, and ability to teach across the English and Creative Writing provision at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Areas of specialism might include: colonial and postcolonial literature, genre writing, contemporary debates in creative writing, and careers and employability.

You will be required to contribute to curriculum development and have demonstrable potential to undertake research, development and/or scholarship to enhance teaching. The ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders to contribute to marketing, recruitment and enhancement of teaching is essential. You should have highly developed oral and written communication skills, showing ability to communicate highly complex information to a range of audiences.

This post is full-time (37 hours a week) – job share will be considered. (If you wish to apply on a job share basis you must state this on your application.)

The position we are filling is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and a satisfactory DBS disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service is required as part of our clearance procedures.
