Summary
Role Overview:
Victoria Travel is seeking reliable and caring part-time Passenger Assistants to support children on their daily school journeys. Many of our passengers have special educational needs (SEN) or disabilities, so this role is vital to ensuring their safety and comfort.
Key Responsibilities:
Safely assist pupils on and off the vehicle.
Supervise and support children throughout the journey.
Ensure seatbelts and any specialist equipment are used correctly.
Manage behaviour calmly and professionally.
Provide reassurance and support to children who may be anxious or upset.
Report any incidents or concerns to the transport office or school staff.
Assist in emergencies such as illness, accidents, or breakdowns.
Requirements:
Enhanced DBS check (mandatory).
Safeguarding training.
PATS (Passenger Assistant Training Scheme) certification – desirable but not essential.
Good communication skills, patience, and reliability.
Training:
Full training can be provided to suitable candidates, including safeguarding and PATS.
Work Pattern:
Part-time: approximately 3–4 hours per day, Monday to Friday.
Split shifts: mornings and afternoons in line with school timings.
School term–time only (no work during school holidays unless otherwise agreed).
Payment:
Paid per trip, based on the journey completed (not hourly).
Rates agreed in advance for each route/service.
Contract Basis:
Self-employed role.
Not entitled to holiday pay.
No fixed hours beyond agreed school runs.
Either party may end the arrangement at any time, though notice is appreciated.
